In April, 2010, when Andrew was 2 1/2, a tumor was discovered behind his eye. The tumor was removed, but it was found to be an aggressive cancer. He endured seven months of chemo and six weeks radiation. In December of 2010, the day after his last treatment, he was rushed to the ER with an almost fatal bacterial infection. He survived.

He is now seven-years-old!! I don't visit here much, because during the ordeal, this is where I dumped everything--my rage, my fear, my sadness, my ugly, my hope, my everything. But I want all of you who supported and prayed for us to hear his updates. You helped me survive, and I am deeply thankful. Every once in awhile, I will check in to let you know how he's doing. Please continue to pray that cancer will never return to his body. Thank you.

My Blessings

Today when I saw myself standing in front of the mirror,
in my bathing suit,
in the middle of the day,
on a Tuesday,
the thought struck me:
"I have so much to be thankful for.  Here I am about to go swim with three of my favorite people in the world."
And it made me think of all of the other ways I am blessed.
Sometimes it is too easy to forget.

My Blessings

My sweet boys.

Our beautiful parents who love their grandchildren.
And play with them.

A postive, optimistic child who plays
"where is Andrew" with his blankies while
chemotherapy is rushing through his veins.

A husband who loves to play with his boys.
A husband who loves me.

Good health insurance!

Those blue eyes.

And so many more.

Happy Tuesday to you and yours.

Because every day is a gift.

  1. What beautiful blessings :) And boys! That first photo is fantastic - they're all smiling!

  2. That's a good list. I love the first two pics. Actually all of them. You have greatness there. Keeping prayers headed your way. =)

  3. Every day IS a gift. You DO have so many things/people/gifts to be happy about. Oh and those eyes are stunning.

    Happy Tuesday chica!!!

  4. How lovely Julie. Your attitude and your photos are amazing!

  5. It funny how you say you have so much to be thankful for, because the truth is, Yesterday I became a follower of yours. I happened to run into your page & stopped to read. Your First picture captured my attention. As I scrolled down, my heart began to break. Yesterday Morning I woke up in a really cranky Mood. I didn't have anything to really be cranky about accept the discomfort my body was feeling... Something Midol could cure. WHen my boyfriend asked, I replied "I just want to be cranky." How selfish. After reading your blog yesterday, & seeing your Andrew's pretty blue eyes. I instantly felt guilt & ashamed of how I was acting. Your little boy is so precious & it's hard to see him like that... I don't even know him. You're so right, it's very easy to forget to be thankful. My day completely turned around after reading your story!
I think so much of you & your fmaily. You are all beautiful.
Your pictures are just amazing... Andrew playing "Where's Andrew" under the covers brought tears of joy. Your blog is really awesome & inspirational!

  6. It's that great attitude that will get you through the most trying days.

I will be following and keep your sweet little Andrew in my prayers.

  7. I love a good blanket tent, too. And here's to the wonderful words "Your total responsibility is $0"! =>
